VMware License User Threshold

Per virtual machine licensing offers more flexibility for licensing options to IT organizations. Where per processor licensing might result in increased costs, per virtual machine licensing enables the purchase of only the licenses required by the VMware administrators.

The VMware license user threshold report shows that the user-defined threshold for license usagehas been exceeded so that administrators can accurately track the number of licensed users on the vCenter Server.

Definition

License usage thresholds are used to trigger notifications for the corresponding vCenter Server instance if the threshold is exceeded. Thresholds can be set below or above the purchased license capacity. Thresholds do not enforce license usage limits. They are used for notifications only.

Keep in mind that thresholds apply only to assets with per-virtual machine licensing.

See the vSphere Datacenter Administration Guide for instructions on setting license usage thresholds.
