SQL Server 2012 may offer several advantages compared to its predecessors, but that does not mean the platform is without its deficiencies. Enterprise Apps Today recently reported that the latest version from Microsoft offers businesses improved security, scalability and programmability, among other benefits, but proper maintenance is still required.
The news source reported that SQL Server 2012 is significant for several reasons, including the fact it has given Microsoft a competitive advantage in the business intelligence field. However, Forrester Research analyst Boris Evelson noted that databases are generally are difficult to integrate with BI deployments and require database tuning and other customization needs.
"[SQL Server 2012] comes with the latest versions of PowerPivot and PowerViewer, which are among the top products addressing key BI trends such as data exploration and discovery, enablement of business users and data visualization," Evelson explained, according to the Enterprise Apps Today report.
Improved SQL Server performance is not the only benefit associated with Microsoft's latest version of the popular platform. A recent SQL Server Pro report indicated that SQL Server 2012 offers greater security capabilities from previous releases.
