Cloud computing delivers benefits for SMBs

Small and medium-sized businesses are seeking more cost-effective IT solutions given the current economic outlook, and cloud computing may be the most attractive option available. A recent report by the Guardian highlighted why the cloud is so ideal for SMBs.
"Cloud-based software is often easier to use, faster to deploy and provides far greater flexibility than on-premise solutions that need to be installed and maintained, especially for [SMBs] that are too small for a dedicated IT staff," the Guardian explained.
The new source asserted that the cloud can help SMBs lower operating costs, citing a study conducted by market research firm IDC as an example. According to that report, a majority of SMBs reported lowering such expenditures between 10 and 20 percent thanks to cloud computing technology.
As more SMBs look to improve cost-efficiency, database performance and empower employees with innovative collaboration technology, cloud computing's impact is only expected to grow. In a company release, Symantec global marketing senior vice president Steve Cullen suggested that these organizations can gain a competitive advantage by pairing virtualization and cloud computing.
