Ignite Agentless Architecture

A key advantage of Ignite™ for Oracle and Ignite™ for Java is the Confio Agentless architecture, which allows continuous monitoring without draining performance from production systems. Unlike many performance tools, Ignite does not install executable agents at the operating system level on monitored servers, and does intercept data coming in and out of the monitored systems. The result is the lowest load, typically less than 1%, on production systems being monitored.

Three Tier Architecture

Ignite achieves this advantage through its three tier architecture, consisting of the Client, Repository and Monitored Server. By placing all the processing load on the central Repository, Ignite avoids the heavy loads imposed on Monitored systems by typical performance tools.

1. Client

Ignite for Oracle clients installed on Windows® desktops give users the view into current and historical performance data. This application can be widely distributed to users with varying information needs and levels of Oracle and Java expertise. Differing privilege levels – full vs. read-only – enable controlled access for different types of users including developers, managers, and application owners.

2. Repository

This tier is where the “heavy lifting” gets done. The Ignite Repository software is installed on an Oracle instance separate from any monitored server, typically on a test or development system under direct control of the DBA team. The Repository is the central point for gathering and processing Wait-Time statistics and transforming it into useful performance information for display on the Client. A single Repository is used to monitor both Oracle and Java servers.

3. Agentless Monitoring

Monitored Databases are the production or development systems for which performance measurements are desired. Up to 80 Monitored Servers, both Oracle and Java, can be simultaneously monitored from a single Repository. Because the heavy processing is all accomplished on the Repository, the load imposed on Monitored servers by Ignite for standard performance monitoring is less than 1%.
